PCS Coverage Timeline
Your orders have a timeline. So does your coverage.

90 days out
- Pull your dec pages: auto, renters or homeowners, and life.
- Keeping your house here and renting it out? A homeowners policy usually needs to change to a landlord policy before a tenant moves in.
60 days out
- Belongings in transit. Check whether your renters or homeowners policy covers your things while they're moving and in storage. The mover's liability is limited.
- Your car. Shipping it or driving it cross-country? Confirm it's covered in transit.
30 days out
- No gap, no overlap. Set coverage to start at the new place and end at the old one on the right dates.
- New state rules. Check registration and insurance requirements for your new state.
- Going overseas? U.S. auto policies generally don't cover driving abroad.
On arrival
- Update your garaging address.
- Walk the new place with your phone camera for a home inventory.
Separating instead of moving: SGLI to VGLI
- SGLI continues for 120 days after separation.
- Apply for VGLI within 240 days of separation and you don't have to answer health questions.
- From day 241 up to 1 year and 120 days, you can still apply, but you'll need proof of good health.
- Compare VGLI with private coverage before day 240, so the deadline doesn't make the choice for you.
